From the Calaveras Enterprise:

Beth Elinor Childs died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her home in West Point.  She was 83.

A native of San Francisco, Ms. Childs was born Sept. 18, 1924.  She graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, and then attended San Jose State College.  She graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in marine biology.  She taught biology at Campbell High School until she retired and moved to West Point.

Ms. Childs and her partner, Genna Hurst, were active in their community, giving freely of their time, energy and financial resources to programs for children such as the 4-H Club, Girl Scouts, the West Point Scholarship Fund and the Calaveras Community Foundation.  Ms. Childs followed many interests in her life, including playing the oboe, piano, organ and guitar.  She raised livestock, built and remodeled houses and traveled all over the world.

She will be greatly missed by the community and the many friends who loved her.

Ms. Chlds was frankly the best high school teacher I had.  There was never a wasted moment in class, and she inspired me to major in zoology as a college undergrad.  May she rest in peace.

Ms. Childs was one of the two best teachers I had in high school (the other was Mr. Williams in Latin). She was immensely responsible for me maoring in Biloogy on college and for wanting to go to medical school. I will never forget her!
