On April 23, 2025 Mel passed away quietly in his sleep at his home in Elkridge, Maryland. In high school Mel was well liked by his classmates and was an excellent competitive runner. Mel is survived by his wife Carol McCann and four children: Travis, Elizabeth, Greg and Katherine.

Mel’s wife Carol McCann called me today and asked me to let Mel's classmates know that Mel passed quietly in his sleep at home. Even though Mel had a past medical history with his heart and wore a pacemaker, his passing came as a real surprise. The night before Mel showed no signs of a medical problem and said nothing to Carol regarding his health.
Mel was a great guy and an active member of our committee that organizes our Westmont '65 class reunions. He had signed up for our upcoming 60 Year Class reunion and had his travel plans from Maryland all set.
We will surely miss Mel. May he rest in peace.

Wow so sorry to hear of Mel's passing. He and I go back to El Quito Park 4 th grade and beyond. Really a great guy. We hadn't seen each other for several years but we did meet on one of his visits out here and shared a beer at the Pruneyard in Campbell. It's always tough to hear of another one of our friends leaving us. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family.
